Omaha AVGS Celebrates Cinco de Mayo

The Omaha African Violet & Gesneriad Society held its annual Spring Show and Sale on May 3rd and 4th, 2024. The show was held at the Bennington Community Center. There were 9 exhibitors from the club showing 92 horticulture and 9 design exhibits. The theme of the show was "Cinco de Mayo" which made for a very colorful room. The show was awarded an AVSA rating of 97.39. An educational program was put on for the public by Jen Vincent.The top horticulture award winners were: Terri Post, Best in Show with The Alps, Best AVSA Mini/Semi Collection with Rob's Dandy Lion, Jolly Pepper, Cool Teen, Best Standard with The Alps, Best Semi with Cool Teen, Best Mini with Optimara Little Azurite, 2nd Best Gesneriad with Michaelmoelleria vietnamensis; Jen Vincent, 2nd Best in Show with Jen's Drops of Jupiter; Tony Freedland, Best AVSA Standard Collection with Hunter's Kashmir, Cajun's Zydeco, Jen's Drops of Jupiter, Best Trailer with Rob's Boolaroo; Linda Hall, 2nd Best AVSA Mini/Semi Collection with Hunter's Bunny Tracks, Irish Angel, Jungle Princess, Best African Violet in an Unusual Container with Optimara Rose Quartz, Best Vintage with Optimara Rose Quartz; Randy G Deutsch, Best Species with S. 5a clone grandifolia No 237, Best Gesneriad with Streptocarpus 'Black Tie Affair', Horticulture Sweepstakes with 23 blue ribbons.The top design award winner was: Randy G Deutsch, Best Design in Show with "Dancing", 2nd Best Design in Show with "Dish Garden", Best Interpretive Plant Design with "Dancing", Best Interpretive Flower Design with "Colors of Cinco de Mayo", Best Container with "Dish Garden", Design Sweepstakes with 3 blue ribbons.
